This layer allows you to add a scatter plot to your current display. A point will be drawn for each observation line of the dataset as a function of the associated X and Y coordinates.
Configure a scatter plot in ZENPLOT®
In order to create a scatter plot in ZENPLOT®, you need to enter:
- The dataset you want to use
- The variable corresponding to the coordinates of the abscissas of the points (X)
- The variable corresponding to the coordinates of the ordinates of the points (Y)
The coordinates on the x-axis can be qualitative or quantitative, the coordinates on the y-axis are inevitably quantitative.
Customize a scatter plot in ZENPLOT®
You can easily customize:
- The border of the points (Thickness, type, line color)
- Point color
- Point size
- Point shape (circle, triangle, square, rhombus, cross)
- Point labels
You can also choose to link the points to each other or to a fixed point on the layer.
In ZENPLOT®, you can choose two ways to customize the characteristic of an element:
By imposing a uniform style on all elements
In this case, all the points of the layer will have the same style applied for that characteristic (same color, same size, or same shape, etc.)
By binding the characteristic to a variable in the dataset
In this case, all the points on the layer will have a different style for that characteristic depending on the value they take for the linked variable.
When binding to a qualitative variable, you must choose a style for each category of the variable.
When binding to a quantitative variable, it is necessary to define a minimum, median, and maximum value . A gradient is thus produced.
Ideas for visualizations with a scatter plot
Here are some ideas of visualizations in which you will use the Scatter Plot layer:
- Scree plot
- Lollipop chart
- Bubble chart
